Cluster Wall Art

It's been a while between posts. Quite a while. Instead of making excuses for my long absence, I shall just proceed...

Now, here at Home Interior Matters blog, the subject of today's post is scattered/cluster wall art. The fabulous Design Crisis recently did a post on this very topic.

The purpose of this post is to show a lovely client of mine (Nadine) just how amazing a cluster wall of all different shapes and sizes can look. A few images of David Jimenez designs to get my point across. To make Nadine feel confident that it's the right choice for her home.

Check out the following eye candy....

Until next time.... enjoy!

Apartment Envy

Sorry it's been a while since I last blogged - I've had some issues with my PC ..... enough of that now, let's get back to talking about my favourite topics design and beautiful things!

Despite the negative reviews, I still loved SATC2. Storyline or no storyline, over the top or not, I loved it - but then I'm a huge fan. I will never be disappointed because I just love everything about SATC, from the series to the two movies.Even though I found that SATC2 focussed less on a plot and more on style, on travel, and interior design - I was pleased as they are all of my favourite things.

Though it's been months since I saw the movie, I can't stop thinking how amazing Carrie and Big's apartment was styled - with rich and lavish fabrics and textures.

It was a really different feel to the old Carrie apartment, and her redecorated 'mature Carrie' apartment at the end of the first movie, which was all colour and feminine, like a little girl's bedroom. And different to Big's modern and minimalist bachelor apartment.

The new apartment was the perfect combination of the two personalities and was decorated very much for them as a couple. Perfectly incorporating Carrie's trademark quirky touches - lights, antiques sourced from flea markets, rugs and collections of books and treasures - into a space which also has many masculine elements, such as classic furnishings and dark woods.

The tricky part when designing a home for a male and female can be incorporating the girly elements as well as making it appealing and comfortable to the male. I think this was successfully achieved in SATC2. This was achieved by using subdued colours - lots of blues and browns as well as stylish furniture and accessories, made the apartment male-friendly.

The little details add just as much character to this home as the big ones. The apartment was painted and wall-papered in neutral hues, with crisp white frames, and fantastic hardwood floors. Set decorator Lydia Marks did a great job in ensuring that Carrie's quirkiness and feminine touch comes out with the pops of pink and yellow in the carpets and smaller objects around the apartment. The end result? Amaaaaaazing! An apartment that I'd happily call home.

One piece that especially caught my eye is the hand-crafted ottoman by Anne Kyyro Quinn. The Finnish designer (based in London) created this ornate piece that played a key role in the film. Perhaps symbolic of the transition from her single life to married life, the vivid blues seemed to be perfectly pulled from the colour of Carrie's old apartment, and made the perfect perch for when Big gifts Carrie a rock to wear so she'll "remember" she's married.

Another piece that I love is the coffee table, very interesting idea having the books standing up. Also, note the blue Chinese Foo Dog statutes acting as book ends.

You can definitely find inspiration for your own home from the set of SATC2.

Enjoy the eye candy shots from SATC2,

Sandi

Wonderful new store

In recent times, I came across the newly opened store of Fenton & Fenton in Prahran. The store, owned by sisters, Emma and Lucy Fenton stocks unique items from all over the world. With the store stocking a collection of furniture, home wares, art, antiques and jewellery, sourced both locally and wide.

Then to find out the sisters also own another store that they opened 18 months prior, called Fenton in South Yarra. It too stocks a similar range of items, only on a smaller scale.

Their style could be described as vibrant and modern, with a bohemain edge. It is definitely worth exploring the eclectric mix of contemporary pieces as well as antiques in the store. If you enjoy mixing and matching styles in your home, then you will especially love these stores.

There is no other stores like it in Melbourne - all the things I love in two stores. Well worth a visit. And I will certainly be back soon!

Nevenka

This week I came across the pop up store of Nevenka, located at the end of Howey Place, in Melbourne. And I just had to share these stylish designs with you all. The brand was created by designer, Rosemary Masic in 2000, following the tragic death of her mother, Nevenka. Rosemary was inspired to create a line of clothing after her mother's name and character.

The clothing represents her unique and eclectic style, with the use of vintage pieces, while at the same time still being very contemporary. The feminine collection of printed silk dresses and colourful separates could easily be seen on Carrie Bradshaw in Sex 'n' City. She has an uncanny knack of mixing unexpected prints and colours together to look stunning and fun. And somehow, it all works.

I can't wait for a Nevenka store to open in Melbourne soon.

Have a great weekend,

Sandi
